New Australian trees
The new Australian native tree and plant library is now online. This is an ongoing project with small groups of between 3 and 5 plants available to purchase as they become available. We decided to offer this library as smaller downloads due to the time delay in waiting for an entire library to be developed. It also allows us to tailor the content based on user feedback throughout the development cycle. Our first group of 5 new trees is available to purchase, also included are two of plants from our free page - but in all file formats.

What goes into a plant?
One question that gets asked a lot is - how much time does it take to create a plant?. Depending on the complexity, it can take anywhere between 30 and 200+ hours - the later being more complex trees or grasses. What a lot of people don't know is - all our plants are hand traced, meaning, we don't use the magic wand or any other automated selection tool. This ensures we can guarantee each and every plant is of high enough quality to qualify for print and media work. Once cut out, 60% of the total time invested goes into re-touching and bleeding every single edge of the plant (including individual needles\blades\leaves). This gives the plant a clean edge that will blend into any background and eliminates edge artifacts common with alpha channel graphics when rendering.
The image below is a small section of a flowering gum tree I am working on for the Australian library. If you click on the image you can see just how much work goes into an alpha channel - which is the business end for CAD rendering.

VectorWorks files updated
Thanks to Jonathan Pickup from Archoncad, the Australian Designer Special library has been updated with VectorWorks version 2010 and 2011 files. The plants render beautifully with the RenderWorks plugin, here is a recent VectorWorks render by Ron Stevenson Architects.
Now is a good time to spruce up your VectorWorks presentations with our high quality Australian and NZ plants.
News Updates for 2011
My apologies for the lack of news updates last year, being a small business you do find less time to update the website with so many projects going on. This year I decided to start off with a clean slate and the news page will be updated on a monthly basis. Also, I am happy to announce a new tutorial section will be available mid February. The tutorials will cover tips and tricks on getting the most out of our plants in Photoshop and various CAD applications, and downloadable sample files from my feature articles in Landscape Manager magazine.
Part one of the new Australian native tree\plant library is not too far from completion, this library will be released in groups of 5 trees\plants. Also, a new and exciting product is in the pipeline for late 2011 - but more on that at a later date.
